How does PCMtuner read PCR2.1 and EDC17CV41 on Bench?

I have tested read EDC17CV41 and PCR2.1 using OBD mode with PCMtuner, it works fine. But it fails in Bench mode. How to read PCR2.1 on Bench with PCMtuner?

Answer: The situation of PCR2.1 ECU is more complicated, and it may even use BOOT mode. I will introduce the connection method of PCR2.1 ECU below.

  • OBD read directly.
  • Connect with a cable and convert to OBD-Bench mode. This conversion method requires a conversion cable (Godiag GT105 and Full Protocol OBD2 Jumper is recommended).
    1. After the conversion is completed, select Canbus in the OBD protocol to read the data.

If the reading fails or only flash can be read, it means that the ECU is encrypted and needs to be connected with Bench, and a third connection method needs to be introduced.

    2. Using Bench connection, select the corresponding MCU protocol in module 71.
      1. Attached PCR2.1 wiring diagram:

Note: GPT0, GPT1 are equivalent to SSM_S1, SSM_S2 in the picture.

The above three methods, It is safest to use OBD or OBD-Bench mode. If none of the above three methods work, you need to use BOOT (disassemble the ECU, read the password and then read the data).

Generally speaking, BOOT is not recommended, the ECU needs to be disassembled, and there is a certain risk. But the PCMtuner team has developed a new accessory: dFlash. dFlash tool can read PCR2.x (such as PCR2.1) and Simos8.x, no need to disassemble the ECU.
