Problem: A user tried to add a key to a 2016 BMW X6 using Autel IM608 with XP400 Pro and GODIAG FEM/BDC Test Platform in Smart Mode. The key reading step failed, and after restarting the process, the BDC module became unresponsive.
Why This Happens:
Smart Mode does not back up the full EEPROM data unless the module is benched. If critical data is missing, the process can permanently damage the module.
Recommended Approach:
- Do not use Smart Mode for BMW FEM/BDC modules.
- Always use Manual Mode to read and save EEPROM data first.
If the EEPROM is Already Corrupted:
1.Write the original EEPROM data back if available.
2.If not, use a compatible EEPROM dump from an identical model or replace the BDC.
3.Reconnect the module, open Expert Mode in Autel, and run the BDC repair function (with external power connected).
4.If repair fails, try another known-good EEPROM file and repeat.
5.Once repaired, restore coding and program keys using Expert Mode only.
Critical EEPROM Reading Tip:
- Always read manually via system selection.
- After reading, take photos of the first and last data sections, then read again and compare. Repeat until the data is consistent.
- Only write a verified good file to avoid corruption.
