Which key programming tools should BMW cars choose?

 Question: I want to buy one key programming tool, need opinion from your, which to buy between Autel IM508 and OBDSTAR X300 Key Master DP plus? Mercedes and BMW not interest me, I have other tool for this two brand.

Suggestion:

What do you want from the tool , what coverage do you lack and require or hope for from the tool ?

its always best to match a tool to your exact needs or as near to your exact needs as possible .

neither tool is a 1 tool does all , both have strengths and weaknesses and both have their fails .

your question will get mixed answers , those that have im508 will tell you 508 is better tool , those that have the obdstar tool will tell you obdstar is best , biased non factual answers . someone who has both will be a better answer .

though without knowing makes , models and years you want it for any answer is a guess as both have their gaps in coverage and both have their fails .

for instance on some models neither tool will work.

One user have both and share his experience:

1. I've got both, and many more, one fails use the other, im508 is good, then again, I used obdstar on a old Nissan it worked and saved me,, all others failed, so u need to get them all, Londsor I have not used yet , and don't forget the rest abrites etc, too much to list, just invest in them, main ones, don't cut corners.
2. Autel IM508 for some cars need internet to program i think Obdstar this cars dont need internet .

Both are good exept with Autel IM508 if you buy XP400Pro you can do and Mercedes IR smart keys.

 

Autel IM508 or OBDSTAR X300 Key Master DP plus weaknesses:

Will not program VAG cars all keys lost, if fact you need to buy other key programmers like Xhorse VVDI2 programmer with VAG software.

 

Need about 10-20, other different programmers.

It's very expensive.

And this never stop.

Need to purchase new things/tools every year.

Sometimes licenses, of specific brands.

 

And also subscription on some of them.

 

Autel IM608 subscription is about 900USD, each year.

And most other programmers is about 300-600USD, each year.
