How to use Launch X431 Pro5 to do DPF Regen on a 2012 VW Passat TDI?
It can be done in "Intelligent Diagnose" and "Service Function" two ways. All work fine! It's quicker to operate with the special function.
Use SmartBox 3.0 to connect vehicle and X-431 Pro5 via the OBDII extension cable and Bluetooth properly before operation. After selecting the corresponding car model, the DPF Regeneration process is similar in two methods.
Method 1: with Intelligent Diagnose
Step 1: Identify vehicle info by scanning VIN
Turn on X-431 Pro5 tablet
Tap "Intelligent Diagnose" to identify the VIN automatically (connect VCI>> read VIN>> decode VIN)
Detect the vehicle is 2012 VOLKSWAGEN Passat.
Click "Diagnostic"
Step 2: Regen DPF
Select Special Function>> DPF Regeneration
Identify vehicle characteristics…
No need to select car brand, year and model, all will appear automatically.
Just select the engine type (CKRA 2.0L TDI-CR/103Kw) and tap "Start"
Tap "01-Particle Filter Service Regeneration (Repair Group 26)"
Function execution in process…
1.Note on function test:
It will perform the following steps:
Evaluation of event memory entries that prevent regeneration service regeneration of diesel particulate filter
Test Requirement:
- Fuel Tank level: At Least 1/4 Full
- Vehicles with automatic transmission: Selection Lever in position P
- Vehicles with Manual Transmission: Selection lever in a neutral position
- Activate Parking Brake!
- Hood Closed!
- Switch on electrical consumers
Confirm if the Neutral gear engaged (manual transmission) and the selector lever in position P (Automatic transmission)
Confirm if the parking brake applied
Confirm if hood is closed
Confirm if the electrical consumer is switched on
2.Read the safety instructions
3.Check event memory
There are no entries in the engine control module- J623 that require a regeneration of the particulate filter. Confirm if end the test.
4.Evaluation during idling
Allow the engine to run at idle…
Release accelerator pedal
Test successfully
5.Heat up exhaust system
6.Note
It is not necessary to permanently press the pedals during the following basic setting.
Remain at the vehicle during the entire duration of the basic setting for safety reasons.
7.Initiate Regeneration
Depress Brake Pedal
Depress Accelerator Pedal Fully
Regeneration is running
The regeneration can be canceled by pressing the Continue button
Complete!
Method 2: with Service Function
On the X431 Pro 5 main menu
Tap Service Function>> DPF REGEN>> DPF REGEN software>> VW
Switch on ignition
Select the engine type and tap "Start"
Then tap "01-Particle Filter Service Regeneration (Repair Group 26)"
Quick login to start the DPF Regeneration process
The final test result is success as well.
